In the mid 1950’s, engineer’s recognized that the hot gases exhausted from a gas turbine could be used to boil water and drive a steam turbine. Thus began the remarkable ascent of the combined-cycle power plant.
These plants are lowest cost to build of all power plants, and until recently, were the most efficient method for using fossil fuels. The hybrid-nuclear technology is now the most efficient, and by a significant margin. This means that the hybrid can extend natural gas supplies for generations to come.
